Impressionism is considered to be the first distinctly modern art movement. It started in the 1860s in Paris and then spread all over Europe and the U.S. At that time, the generally accepted method of painting was photo-quality realism - the artists created a highly blended finish with invisible brushstrokes, taking their time to finish the artwork in a matter of days, months, or even years. Impressionists, on the other hand, wanted to capture the momentary effect of a scene - an impression of it, usually finishing the painting in one session. Where Does The Name "Impressionism" Come From

I was lucky enough to have the chance to visit the National Gallery in London in the summer of 2021. It was the first time when I had the opportunity to see with my own eyes the works of Rubens, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Velasquez, Picasso, Gaugain… And then, of course, there were the Impressionists. Monet, Cezanne, Degas - what more can a landscape artist like myself dream of? Strangely enough, the Impressionist movement owes its name to one of its critics. Modern Impressionism

It’s a fact that art cannot be an act of mimicry. It has to be something more, otherwise the artist would not be considered more than an imperfect camera. Since the forefathers of the impressionists, such as Monet, Renoir and Sisley, modern impressionists continue the legacy of transposing light onto canvas. The true beauty of the world comes from natural landscapes. The impressionist landscape is probably the most honest way to depict the beauty of nature. After I’ve quit my experiments with abstract art a few years ago, I have realised that it is better to reconnect with nature and make a habit from painting en plein air. Modern impressionism is at the core of my artistic journey at this point...
